Meet Nicky

I decided to become a midwife because of my experiences when I had my   children.
Nicky and her boysMany of my friends were also having children around the same time so I heard plenty of horror stories but my births were empowering and enjoyable experiences. The big difference was the midwifery care that I received.

I had my two boys at home; the same midwife assisted me to birth both of them. My husband and I had been able to build a relationship with the midwife during my antenatal care and therefore we felt relaxed and safe with her. This trust enabled me to relax and let my body do what it's designed to do, birth my babies. I’m not unique or special, given the same support, care and love, other women can also have wonderful birth experiences.  My midwife made a huge, empowering impact on my life, I want to make that difference for you.

My experience in the NHS has been very informative but also deeply
frustrating. Unfortunately due to a lack of funding and staff shortages
many midwives do not have the time or resources to be truly ‘with woman’
(the traditional meaning of the word ‘midwife’). In my experience the
system is often geared more to meeting the needs of the budget holders
rather than pregnant women. I have decided to practice independently
because I want to build a relationship with the women I care for, so
that I can give them true informed choice and the holistic care they
deserve.

I support water birth and I take a strong interest in the use of
complementary therapies such as massage and natal hypnotherapy (deep
relaxation techniques).I breast fed my children and can offer practical and emotional support if you choose to do so. My aim is to enhance your experience of pregnancy, birth and the transition to becoming parents.
